Our
Story In
1985 the city life was traded in for the Hunter Valley lifestyle.
Bob & Maryanne McLeish started out by planting Semillon &
Chardonnay on the forty four acre property only to find that they
were onto a really good thing having initial success selling there
fruit to another producer, which then lead to the establishment of
their own label McLeish Estate Wines. “I
was first influenced to drink wine when I was working as an engineer
in Adelaide in the mid- eighties. The water and the beer were
terrible quality so I turned to drinking Henschke’s Hill of Grace
at $7.50 a bottle” – Bob McLeish Since
the humble beginnings the family owned winery has gone to elevated
success in association with with Andrew Thomas as the Chief
Winemaker. “He
is a genius. He has shown us how to capture the essence of the
quality of the grapes. He understands how to contain the flavours of
freshly picked fruit and maintain that flavour through to bottling.
Together we capture the freshness and maintain its quality” Twenty
Six years on and the production has grown to include six varietals
all produced on the property. And with Jessica our twenty one year
old daughter, plenty of medals and still producing the wines that we
are so passionate about there are no regrets. |
